Previous Applicants Need Not Reapply\n\n\nThe Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is\nan independent State agency that regulates Maryland's $46 billion insurance\nindustry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers' and\ninsurance professionals' compliance with State law.� Staff members are\nsubject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers, consumers, and\nother public and private entities.�\n�\nThe MIA is charged with a broad range of\nresponsibilities including the licensure of insurance carriers and insurance\nproducers (brokers/agents) operating in Maryland, the conduct of financial\nexaminations of companies to monitor financial solvency, and the review and\napproval of rates and contract forms. The MIA investigates reports of consumer\nfraud and consumer complaints about life, health, automobile, homeowners,\nand/or property insurance.� Insurance carriers are subject to market\nconduct examinations and other actions to monitor compliance with Maryland\nlaw.� The MIA also has a unit dedicated to consumer education and\noutreach, which participates in hundreds of events and reaches thousands of\nindividual consumers annually.\n�\n* This is a Management Service position that\nserves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.\n

Main Purpose of Job
The Maryland Insurance Administration is\nrecruiting for the position of Associate Commissioner, Property &\nCasualty.� The Associate Commissioner reports directly to the Maryland\nInsurance Commissioner and is the agency's senior staff subject matter\nexpert�on property & casualty insurance. �The responsibilities of\nthe Associate Commissioner, Property & Casualty include (i) oversight of the day-to-day operation of the\nProperty & Casualty Division; (ii) monitoring the health of the Maryland\nproperty and casualty market, including the availability and affordability of\ninsurance; and (iii) engagement at the National Association of Insurance\nCommissioners and other national groups on issues that impact Maryland\nconsumers.� The Property & Casualty Division consists of the Consumer Complaints\nUnit, which investigates consumer complaints involving issues related to their\nproperty and casualty insurance, and the Rates & Forms Unit which reviews\nrate/rule and form filings forms form compliance with Maryland law.� The\nAssociate Commissioner also advises the Maryland Insurance Commissioner on\nvarious consumer and industry-related issues, including regulations and\nlegislation, and may prepare reports, and testify before, the General Assembly.\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree\nfrom an accredited four-year college or university.\n�\nExperience: At least 10 years of property and\ncasualty insurance related governmental or industry regulatory experience,\nincluding at least 5 years of supervisory/management experience.\n
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
\n Extensive knowledge of Maryland's property and casualty laws and regulations.\n \n \n Prior experience as senior level manager of an insurance company or insurance agency.\n Law Degree (Juris Doctor) strongly preferred.\n Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.\n\n\n\n
