Mountain Ave., Tucson, AZ 85721 USA Position Highlights The Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering department at The University of Arizona is seeking a qualified and highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate. Under the direct supervision of Dr. Israel Wygnanski, the selected candidate will be responsible for carrying out experiments Modern Tailless Aircraft Models that suffer from pitch control. The incumbent should be able to work with operations of subsonic wind tunnels, obtain measurements using 5 component balance, work with flow visualization, particle image velocimetry, and hot-wire anemometry. Duties & Responsibilities * Design and carry out experimental work. * Manage wind tunnel testing of models. * Research, design, and modeling of wing configurations. * Project liaison to industrial sponsors and external federal agencies. * Foster collaborations within the Department, with other units across the University, and with team members at other institutes. * Present research at national and international conferences. * Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. * Participate in grant writing, including generating preliminary data, submitting grant applications, and preparing progress reports. * Supervise and assist undergraduate students, along with MS and PhD graduate students, on their assigned projects, including providing help with solving technical problems. * Additional duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Knowledge of aerodynamics and flow control. * Knowledge of pressure sensitive paint and applications to low speed flows. * Skill using Computation fluid dynamics applied to aerodynamics of tailless aircraft. * Ability to communicate professionally in a clear, concise manner orally and in writing. * Effective collaboration skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team. * Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Minimum Qualifications * PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field of study. * Selected applicant must have PhD conferred upon hire. Preferred Qualifications * Experience managing low speed wind tunnels operations. * Experience with particle image velocimetry in low-speed gas flows and hotwires.
