Class Definition The Electronic Court Reporter electronically records and transcribes verbatim live court proceedings using digital recording equipment. Provides transcripts or copies of audio files upon request; labels, controls, and stores records; prepares and maintains a proceeding log; performs minor maintenance on equipment and corrects minor malfunctions; proofreads original transcripts to ensure accuracy; maintains accurate files and records of work in progress and completed work; works in office when not in courtroom; and performs any and all related duties as may be assigned by the Family Court Chief Judge or Administrator/Chief of Staff. Required Qualifications for Appointment Graduation from an accredited high school with courses in typing and/or data processing; certification in digital court reporting program or college degree preferred. Experience such as may have been gained by employment in a position requiring electronic and/or video reporting equipment. Or any combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to the above. Supplemental Information Must have a thorough knowledge of digital electronic sound recording equipment; the ability to operate and maintain recording equipment and to perform minor maintenance and correct minor malfunctions; organizational skills and a high level of attention to detail; the ability to prepare verbatim transcripts or copies of audio files; the ability to maintain accurate files and records; and a thorough knowledge of punctuation, grammar, and spelling and proofreading skills. Also, be advised that a new provision in RI General Law 35-6-1 was enacted requiring direct deposit for all employees. Specific to new hires, the law requires that all employees hired after September 30, 2014 participate in direct deposit. Accordingly, any employee hired after this date will be required to participate in the direct deposit system. At the time the employee is hired, the employee shall identify a financial institution that will serve as a personal depository agency for the employee.
