General Statement of Duties
MUNICIPAL WORKER (SEASONAL MAINTENANCE WORKER)Grounds maintenance tasks including mowing lawns, hand trimming bushes, clearing weedsLitter pick-up and trash collectionManual landscaping tasks, such as installing trail ties, loading/unloading fertilizer and mulchPark building maintenance and cleaning; sweeping, mopping floorsSpecial event tasks: loading/unloading and setting up/taking down tables and chairs other Park maintenance tasks as assigned.
Performs manual labor as described below:
Examples of work performed
* Grounds maintenance tasks including mowing lawns, hand trimming bushes, clearing weeds
* Litter pick-up and trash collection
* Manual landscaping tasks, such as installing trail ties, loading/unloading fertilizer and mulch
* Park building maintenance and cleaning; sweeping, mopping floors
* Event tasks such as loading/unloading and setting up/taking down tables and chairs and other Park maintenance tasks as assigned
* Bending, stretching, heavy lifting, and some strenuous labor may be required.
* Work performed on or around the City's public greenspace, facilities, and park areas.
* May work with volunteers and answer general work questions from the public.
* Operates mechanized equipment and hand tools with or without supervision. Specific skills or the operation of certain pieces of equipment may be learned on the job.
* Erects and makes minor repairs to the playground/park equipment.
* Maintains grounds, walkways, and parking lots.
* Clean shelters and open facilities for approved groups.
* Lock facilities after use, safeguards, property, and equipment.
* Clean snow from walks, steps, and driveways
* Drive a pickup truck and utility cart.
* Cut and care for grass and shrubbery and remove debris.
* Assist in tree removal.
* Cleaned floors, walls, and equipment; loaded, unloaded, and transferred material.
* Cleans walls, windows, blinds, and drapes and changes light bulbs.
* Use hand and power tools to break and remove paving and concrete materials.
* Operate equipment such as weed eaters, riding mowers, hand blowers, and walk-behind blowers.
* Move furniture, load and unload material and supplies from trucks. Ability to lift at least 60 lbs bags.
* Collects garbage and empty trash receptacles
HOURS:Flexible starting time March/April through fall. Up to 40 hours per week, occasional evenings or Saturdays will be required. Enrolled in City Retirement System,no benefits.
Required Education and Experience
A. MUNICIPAL WORKER (SEASONAL MAINTENANCE WORKER)
Must be at least 18 years of age, or 17 years old with High School Diploma or GED
Provide own transportation
Requires valid Driver's License
Must be physically fit, able to do "heavy" to "very heavy" physical work:
"heavy work" means exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or
20 to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
"very heavy work" means exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
B. MUNICIPAL WORKER (HORTICULTRE TECHNICIAN)
Must be at least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED
College-level coursework in horticulture (or related field) and/or horticultural work experience preferred
Must be physically able to perform moderate to heavy labor work
Provide own transportation to and from work
Requires valid Driver's License
Drug screen required
MILITARY EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE EVALUATION
Military education and experience may be substituted for college level course work at the lower and upper division baccalaureate and graduate levels and apprenticeship training at the vocational certificate level on a case by case basis based on the American Council on Education (ACE) Military Guide recommendations.
