The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
Responsibilities:
Performs professional accounting work with responsibility in one or more areas of the University accounting system such as financial reporting, cost analysis and distribution, classification of accounts and funds, study of accounting systems and sponsored programs accounting. (Concentration on type and intensity of work performed varies according to functional areas integrally related to supervisory responsibilities).
Schedule 8 AM-5 PM Responsibilities Position Summary: Performs advanced accounting work requiring knowledge and application of accounting theory, techniques and practices and conceptually understands GAAP financial statements. Plays a vital role in the preparation of Health Science Division operating budget. Responsible for financial oversight, management and monitoring of accounts as assigned. Gathers information, analyzes and interprets data and disseminates information appropriately. Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Associate Director, HSD Finance and with latitude to exercise independent judgment: Assists with the HSD departmental operating budgets using the UR Budget system. Responsible for departmental budgets of medium to difficult complexity. Supports delegated departments with operating budget preparation and clarifies budget guidelines as needed. Analyzes budget proposals to accurately interpret and prepare operating roll forwards for related departments. Prepares and updates a variety of ad-hoc and routine spreadsheets and financial reports relating to ledger activity and financial projections. Evaluates and recommends spreads to accurately represent timing of budgets to actual. (35%) Evaluates and approves Health Science Division's (HSD) UR Financials (URF) journal entries for accuracy, proper FAO, Ledger Account and FAC use, to ensure general accounting practices and policies are followed and financial reporting requirements are met. Initiates HSD Finance monthly, quarterly and year end journal entries. Prepares monthly Pay Pal credit card deposits for URMC divisions, distributes supporting documentation to appropriate departments and serves as the main contact for departments and external customers with questions/issues related to credit card transactions. Provide HSD departments guidance on URF JE processes, corrections and adjustments. (20%) Coordinates the HSD departmental actual to budget variance explanations. Works with departments to ensure results are accurate and appropriate. Performs analyses of assigned HSD departmental actual to budget results and obtains and understands variances. Responsible for necessary budget amendments to ensure alignment of actual to budget. (15%) Performs audit functions and analysis of the numerous departmental accounts for accuracy and completeness on a monthly basis. Investigates variances and/or deficits and prepares summary report of findings. Prepares journal entries to correct accounting errors. Provides guidance to HSD departments regarding FAO reconciliations processes and procedures. Responsible for the timely opening and closing of FAOs. (15%) Prepares and distributes complex affiliate customer invoices and supporting documentation on a monthly basis using URF customer invoice process. Reconciles related customer invoice account receivables. Communicates regularly with affiliate finance personnel regarding intercompany balances. Deposits and posts related payments. (10%) Serve as backup to other HSD Sr Accountant especially with HR related requests, purchase requisition in Workday P2P and invoice processing. (4%) Maintains Health Sciences Division equipment and space inventory. (1%) Performs additional duties as assigned Requirements: Bachelor's degree in accounting and three years of relevant professional accounting experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Qualifications: Ability to interact with all levels of faculty and staff; excellent communication skills; possesses good customer service skills; demonstrates knowledge and experience in the accounting field, attention to detail required; shows initiative and resourcefulness in managing priorities and takes responsibility for accomplishing his/her own work while maintaining confidentiality of information. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel required.
