The Sr Electrical Engineer will contribute to the development of the next generation of our product's Battery Management System, including electronics schematic design, circuit board layout, embedded software development, and automation support for energy storage system processes and operations.
Developing and designing battery management system electronics and controls for our energy storage system products, as well as maintaining existing designs and support the creation of automated test equipment for the product components.
Responsibilities
* Low level circuit design with electrical isolation, microcontroller controls and analog front-end.
* Circuit board layout with high-impedance analog signals and creepage/clearances for high voltage.
* Design to meet safety certification standards, such as UL and IEC.

* Verification testing of electronics component and overall product designs.
* Generation of reports on design decisions and verification testing results and findings.
* Maintain project documentation and assist in creating Operation Manuals.
* Coordinate and manage vendor, supplier, and contractor relationships for prototype design.
* Support manufacturing and field operations with technical problems on released products.
* Provide technical guidance to engineering personnel, manufacturing, and field operations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
* Thorough understanding of electrical theory and electronics design under both the digital and analog domains
* Ability design and layout electrical circuit boards, follow IPC and other safety design standards.
* Working knowledge of embedded control systems and their applications.
* Solid software development skills with C, C++ and optionally the Linux operating system.
* Strong troubleshooting skills for diagnosis and design improvement.
* Familiarity with design for EMC and availability to trace down EMI issues.
* Awareness of safety certification process to standards such as UL.
* Proficiency with communications protocols such as TCP/IP, CAN, i²C and SPI, specifically Modbus
* Strong cross-disciplinary system design skills.
* Capability to select and integrate off-the-shelf component and equipment.
* Integrate with a greater team and understand how components fit together into larger systems.
* Understanding of hardware and design requirements of all components and product as a whole.
* Aptitude to develop test procedures and complete test reports.
* Ability to work in lab environment to conduct and complete verification testing.
* Comfort and experience with the hazard and safety protocols of high voltage equipment and other aspects of working with large-scale battery systems.
* Ability to self-direct to a goal and achieve independent success.
* A team-player attitude and strong written/verbal communication skills are a must.
Education and Experience
* Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronic engineering, computer engineering, or electrical engineering technology required.
* Minimum of 8 years' experience.
* Hardware and design, debug and testing with circuit schematic and PCB design.
* Minimum seven years' experience designed electronics and developing automated controls.
* Engineering Design Software: EAGLE, IAR, Altium, MatLab, PSIM and LTspice or similar software.
* Embedded programming, communication interfaces; I²C, RS-485, CAN bus communication, Modbus TCP, remote IO or flex IO systems (Moxa, Allen Bradley, SEL, Advantech), PLC programming experience, GDB or other debugging tools.
* Linux, embedded systems.
* High voltage electrical systems.
Travel
* Local Travel - Less than 10%
* Overnight/North America - Less than 10%
Working Conditions
* Office Environment - Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time and occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading. May be required to exert up to 25 pounds of force occasionally to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
