Porter School, Columbia, CT Beginning: ASAP Deadline: open till filled Apply Online: https://www.applitrack.com/hwporter/onlineapp/ Job Description: The Columbia Board of Education is seeking an Elementary Long Term Substitute teacher for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year starting as soon as 1/2/2025. Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to the teaching assignment (013 certification is preferred). The long term substitute position is under the direct supervision of the School Principal. Candidates are expected to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum. Responsibilities Include: * Delivers school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives. * Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group/collaborative instruction, and student learning. * Develops lesson plans and instructional materials aligned with CT Core Standards and translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction * Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual small group instruction as needed. * Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. * Coordinates with other elementary school professional staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees. * Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day. * Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs. Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other administrators as designated by the Superintendent. Experience: Successful prior teaching and/or student teaching experience for the appropriate grade level is preferred.
