Mission
We are seeking a Senior Principal Firmware Engineer to join our Engineering team in Newtown, PA. Responsibilities include Firmware (FW) development & architecture for new and sustaining products, failure analysis and root cause investigations, implementing corrective actions, design updates and improvements, production and field support. Within product development, you will be responsible for leading FW architecture, design, performance analysis, simulation, prototype construction and unit test, product documentation, validation, and production launch activities. You will serve as a mentor to other FW developers. To be successful you should have an exceptional engineering background, a history of innovation, be curious, detail-oriented and are an excellent communicator/motivator with management skills.
Responsibilities
* Responsible for all phases of the development process, from concept, design, documentation through production release for new products and support of existing products.
* Leads embedded software projects and understands how to apply innovative concepts to solve our most challenging engineering and field issues.
* Works closely with the hardware team to identify hardware failures, defects, and customer-reported issues to determine their root causes.
* Holds leadership role in developing security protocols and PKI management designs.
* Develops and executes plans to address identified FW issues, including design modifications and process improvements.
* Updates existing FW designs to enhance performance, reliability, or manufacturability without affecting the product's core functionality.
* Supports efforts to replace components for obsolete parts to ensure continuous production and support.
* Collaborates with manufacturing & quality teams to resolve production issues, improve yield rates, and optimize assembly processes.
* Assists field service teams in troubleshooting and resolving FW & HW problems encountered by customers.
* Ensures that our products continue to comply with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.
* Updates and maintains engineering documentation, process & procedures, change notices, etc.
* Works closely with various design teams, quality assurance, supply chain, and suppliers to address FW & HW-related challenges.
* Provides technical guidance to internal teams and, when necessary, to customers regarding engineering issues and best practices.
* Identifies opportunities to streamline processes, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
* Plans and conducts tests to validate product changes and ensure they meet specified requirements.
* Evaluates the potential impact of changes on existing products and implements strategies to mitigate risks.
* Communicates with customers to understand issues, provide updates, and ensure satisfaction with hardware performance.
* Other duties as requested.
Professional Qualifications
* Bachelor of Science in Computer or Electrical Engineering, Masters degree preferred
* Minimum of 15 years of FW experience, including SW & HW exposure
* Leadership and/or management experience strongly preferred
Required Skills
* Experience in the design of FW, such as bootloaders, HW device drivers, OTA downloaders, etc
* Experience with Ethernet, wireless, and other IP communication tools
* Experience supporting the entire development product lifecycle, from conception to EOL
* C/C++, Assembly, makefiles, architecture
* Experience with silicon reference designs (SDK) integration
* Exceptional problem-solving skills
* Ability to collaborate and lead in a multi-site team setting
