Editor, NYCity News Service (Communications Publications Writer-Editor) - Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY POSITION DETAILS The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, founded in 2006, has become nationally recognized for its innovative programs. The only public graduate journalism school in the northeastern U.S., it prepares students from diverse economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds to produce high-quality journalism. As the profession rapidly reinvents itself for the digital age, the Newmark J-School is at the forefront of equipping the next generation of journalists with the tools to find stories and tell them effectively - using print, broadcast, visual, interactive, and social media. The school offers two master's degree programs: a Master of Arts in Journalism and the nation's first M.A. in Engagement Journalism. The Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY seeks candidates to serve as editor of the NYCity News Service, which supports and promotes student work by posting original reporting, and aggregating student work published, posted or broadcast elsewhere. This position reports to the Associate Dean. The ideal candidate is a journalist with a record of delivering outstanding coverage of local journalism. Duties and responsibilities included but are not limited to: * Provides editorial feedback while editing and publishing professional-level student work that emerges from Newmark class reporting; * Develops and communicates editorial guidelines for publishing original student work, both individual pieces and group projects; * Coordinates and provides strategic editorial planning for the School's various editorial brands, including the Mott Haven Herald and Hunts Point Express; * Expands partnerships between Newmark and external outlets; works with colleagues to enhance the reach of the various outlets through the News Service; * Promotes published student work on social media and other channels; * Coordinates awards applications for outstanding student work posted on the News Service and other J-School news outlets. * Performs other related duties as assigned by the Associate Dean. This position requires the incumbent to work in person. QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required. * Experience editing and launching news sites, and developing off-platform products to serve audiences wherever they are. * Background in editing and news innovation. * Product design and development. * Demonstrate experience in audience engagement. CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW Writes and prepares written material on College issues and event and provides professional support to College communications programs. * Researches and writes items in a variety of formats for publication in print, web sites, and presentations * Participates in planning communications projects and contributes to decisions on content and style * May assume editorial responsibility for communications projects; reviews and edits the work of others * May coordinate production of written materials * Adheres to journalistic standards for fact-finding, research, verification, and style * Performs related duties as assigned.
