Overview The Eck lab uses structural, biochemical and biophysical approaches to study protein kinase regulation and other aspects of cellular signal transduction. We use our structural and mechanistic insights to drive development of novel anti-cancer drugs. Systems of current interest in the lab include RAF-family kinases and their control of the RAS/RAF/Map kinase pathway (Park et al., Nature 2019; Park et al., Nature Communications 2023), mutational activation of EGFR in lung cancer (Jia et al., Nature 2016; To et al., Nature Cancer 2022; Beyett et al., Nature Communications 2022) and dysregulation of JAK2 in myeloproliferative disorders (McNally et al., ACS Chem Biol. 2019). Postdoctoral positions are available in the lab (https://ecklab.dana-farber.org/) for curious and mechanistically minded scientists to study these and other areas of interest. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in protein biochemistry with technical expertise in protein expression and purification using mammalian or insect cell systems as well as basic molecular biology techniques. Experience in structural methods (X-ray crystallography, electron microscopy, or NMR), kinase enzymology or assay development/automation is highly desired. We have state-of-the-art facilities (including for cryo-EM, X-ray crystallography, and mass spectrometry) and a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment in Dana-Farber's Longwood Center. We are part of the Chemical Biology program at the Dana-Farber and the Department of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at Harvard Medical School. We collaborate with disease-focused scientists and medicinal chemists in both industry and academia to pursue new therapeutic approaches inspired and informed by our structural discoveries. Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. We are united in our mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS and related diseases. We strive to create an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment where we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all backgrounds, and design programs to promote public health particularly among high-risk and underserved populations. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals. Responsibilities Candidates should be creative and independent thinkers, curious and intrinsically motivated, with a passion for basic research. Postdoctoral fellows in the lab bring or learn diverse tools, including: * Protein expression and purification * Structure elucidation using Cryo-EM and/or X-ray crystallography * Enzyme kinetics, binding studies, calorimetry, etc. * Good oral and written communication skills * Strong organizational and interpersonal skills Qualifications A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in biochemistry or related field Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is an equal opportunity employer and affirms the right of every qualified applicant to receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, national origin, sexual orientation, genetic information, disability, age, ancestry, military service, protected veteran status, or other groups as protected by law.
