General Description and Classification Standards:
The Emergency Preparedness Communications Manager is responsible for performing a variety of communications-related tasks for the City of Atlanta Mayor's Office of Emergency Preparedness. Duties include but are not limited to: Administration of the clinical/technical/scientific operation of the emergency mass notification and other communications systems for the Mayor's Office of Emergency Preparedness (MOEP). Ensuring that MOEP can effectively communicate & engage the public with preparedness information and in the event of a critical incident or disaster response and during large planned special events. The position serves as a resource working with multiple city departments as the key emergency mass notification administrator. The Emergency Preparedness Communications Manager will manage MOEP's dynamic Social Media strategy, ensuring the development and implementation of effective social media strategies and driving engagement and growth across various social media platforms. The Emergency Preparedness Communications Manager will also oversee development and updates to MOEP's portion of CityNet and City of Atlanta website. The Emergency Preparedness Communications Manager will serve as MOEP's primary or alternate Public Information Officer. This role requires exceptional communication skills and a deep understanding of social media trends and best practices.
Supervision Received and Exercised:
The Emergency Preparedness Communications Manager receives general supervision from the Emergency Preparedness Deputy Director and may provide supervision to Emergency Preparedness team members assigned to roles related to emergency communications platforms. Project and technical direction and support will be provided to City of Atlanta staff and occasionally external partners.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Strategy Development: Ensure social media and emergency communications strategies align with the City's goals and objectives. Content Creation and Curation: Oversee the creation and curation of high-quality, engaging, and relevant content across social media and emergency mass notification platforms. Ensure brand consistency, tone of voice, and adherence to established guidelines. Community Engagement: Develop and implement strategies to drive community engagement, increase follower base, and encourage audience interaction. Analytics and Reporting: Utilize social media analytics and emergency mass notification tools to track and analyze key metrics, performance trends, and campaign effectiveness. Stay Up to Date: Stay abreast of the latest trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in social media and emergency notification. Continuously evaluate new platforms, features, and strategies to improve overall performance and effectiveness. This position is considered essential and is subject to provide 24/7 on-call support for the City of Atlanta and the Mayor's Office of Emergency Preparedness in the event of a critical incident.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Ability to: plan and coordinate the work of others; operate all communications equipment; maintain required certifications; respond as appropriate during emergency situations or inclement weather; speak distinctly; deal courteously with the public under stressful conditions; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with service providers, associates, and the general public. The candidate must have strong interpersonal, organizational, data management, problem-solving, research, speaking and writing skills. They must be technologically savvy and be able to train employees and users of the emergency communications system.
