MSU Billings is unique in that it is one of a select few higher education institutions that also boasts an embedded two-year community college. The University opened in 1927 and was initially called Eastern Montana State Normal School at Billings and was established to prepare teachers for elementary schools in eastern Montana. Yellowstone Public Radio (KEMC) provides in-depth news, public affairs and cultural programming to a large portion of Montana and northern Wyoming; more specifically, news which focuses on meaning and detail, public affairs which offers complete expression of ideas including opportunity for listener participation, and cultural programs which express heritage and innovation. Duties and Responsibilities The Digital Media/Broadcast Reporter is an enterprise reporter within the YPR Newsroom who specializes in the creation of digital content based on their own and others' reporting for the YPR website and YPR's social media assets. The Digital Media/Broadcast Reporter will develop sources and story ideas; report both breaking news and longer-term stories following industry standards of ethics, accuracy, and fairness; write and voice reports in a conversational style consistent with NPR's news magazines; produce and mix packages for broadcast; and prepare web posts, social media assets, digital video and still photography, and podcast assets for the YPR Newsroom. An ideal candidate is comfortable from the field under deadline pressure. YPR strives to create unique opportunities for reporters in the form of collaborative podcasts and series, team-reported pieces and access to training from industry leaders.This position reports directly to the YPR News Director. Candidates should embrace working under tight deadlines and working both independently and as part of a team. Required Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Bachelor's degree, preferably in journalism, broadcasting, media, or related field Experience with sound gathering, editing, and production for broadcast Experience with website content management systems and visual media editing software Proficiency with social media as a tool for reporting and promotion Experience as a news reporter and/or producer in broadcasting Strong writing and interviewing skills, and comfort with public speaking Proficiency with sound editing software Knowledge of journalism ethics and professional standards of objectivity, fairness, newsworthiness, and balance Valid drivers' license Self-starter who will initiate projects/assignments under the direction and supervision of the YPR news director and consistently meet deadlines Preferred Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills 3 or more years of experience in radio, investigative reporting, broadcasting, or directly related experience Vehicle ownership Photography and video capture and editing skills The Successful Candidate Will Special Requirements Physical Demands This position has supervisory duties?
