Position: Audiobook Proofreader Type: Full Time, Location: Old Saybrook,CT

Overview

Tantor Media, Inc. is a rapidly growing audiobook company and currently has openings for a full-time Audiobook Proofreaders. Candidates must be able to conduct work in the state of CT, both from home, as well as out of the Tantor Media headquarters in Old Saybrook, CT.

Audiobook Proofreaders play a key role in critically analyzing and judging the quality and suitability of audiobook recordings for publication. Successful candidates must be able to consistently apply advanced knowledge about the genre and make consistent judgments related to the continuity of character representation, narrator creative interpretations, accuracy of narration to text, and the sound quality of recordings.

Job Summary
  • Listening and simultaneously reading along with text to ensure accuracy, consistency, correct pronunciation, and quality of audio submissions.
  • Researching pronunciations, both American and British English as well as foreign languages.
  • Diagnosing audio issues and notating narrator corrections on an Excel spreadsheet.
  • Creating audio samples for the Tantor Media website.
  • Light sound editing in Sound Forge.
Required Qualifications/Skills
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in History, English, Literature, or the fine arts.
  • Must love to read and be willing to read all genres
  • Intermediate researching capabilities.
  • Understanding of English vocabulary (specific to word pronunciation).
  • Strong computer aptitude, with a focus on Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • The ability to adhere to strict deadlines and work independently.
  • Strong focus and multitasking ability, including ability to sit and read from a computer screen for 8 consecutive hours per day.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • A positive attitude and a willingness to help/train others
Additional Desired Skills
  • Knowledge of foreign languages (Middle Eastern, Chinese, Gaelic, etc.).
  • Familiarity with audiobooks.
  • Knowledge of American or British history and European dialects.
  • Familiarity with audio listening software (Sound Forge, Pro-Tools, etc.).
  • Some knowledge of how to write and read phonetics.
