About the Internship nLIGHT is currently recruiting for an Engineering student to intern with us for the summer of 2025. This internship is a 10 to 12-week program that offers challenging assignments, projects, and career development opportunities to enhance your professional growth. About the Team As the Advanced Technology Group, we are always looking for new ideas and developments in the world of lasers. Our team consists of Mechanical Engineers, Device Physicists, Optical Engineers, and Laser Packaging Engineers working on cutting edge science and engineering. What You Can Expect to Learn * Fundamentals of laser diode performance and testing (how the laser functions) * Electromechanical assembly of test equipment * Mechanical design of small/high precision components * Interact in a dynamic environment learning new things every day What You Can Expect to Do * Equipment setup and operation for laser diode testing * Mechanical design of tooling and fixtures * Assist the Advanced Technology (AT) team and Process Control Engineering with tooling and process requirements * Assist AT team with mechanical drawings * Assist AT team with purchase orders and shipping/receiving * Finite Element Modeling using ANSYS or COMSOL, time permitting Who You Are * You have a mechanical hands-on aptitude * You enjoy electronic equipment setup and wiring * You take initiative and have an eagerness to learn * LabVIEW and ANSYS or COMSOL software experience is a plus Minimum Job Requirements * You must be working toward a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, or a closely related field. * You must have completed (at a minimum) your sophomore year in college * You must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or above to be considered Intern Social Events This summer we are bringing on five to six interns and want to ensure the time is well spent on and off the clock. That said, our interns can expect adventures in the PNW, board game nights at local breweries/coffee shops, Happy Hour networking events with Senior Leadership, and much more! Compensation and Benefits Pay depends on level of education completed: * $26 - 28/hr Benefits * Medical, Dental and Vision Benefits including Prescription and Orthodontia with employee-paid premiums as low as $40.00 per pay period nLIGHT is subject to US Export Control regulations.
