Position: Systems Administrator
Department: Information Technology
Reports to: Director of Information Technology
Affiliation: Non-Aligned
Salary range: $72k - $75k
Summary:
The Systems Administrator manages and supports the district's computer systems and processes, including backend and user-facing services, both locally-hosted and cloud-based. This includes configuring and maintaining server and network hardware and software, managing user accounts, and responding to support requests. The Systems Administrator also functions as tier 2 support within the help desk. This entails responding to escalated tickets, diagnosing problems, and working with other dept. staff to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely manner.
This position requires initiative, organizational problem-solving skills, and the ability to acquire knowledge of program operations, policies, and procedures. Incumbents are expected to work both independently and as a team, to carry out the work and procedures of the Information Technology Dept.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

* Configure, install, monitor, and maintain servers and network hardware
* Automate processes and workflows (PowerShell scripting, etc.)
* Provision user accounts and system permissions while maintaining security
* Manage backups of critical systems
* Document procedures and train dept. staff on their implementation
* Provide technical support in person as well as via phone, email, and helpdesk.
* Install, maintain, and support server hardware, software, network devices, and peripherals
* Triage, resolve, and track help desk requests to ensure timely responses.
* Collaborate with IT and EdTech staff to resolve issues
* Provide training to end users (teachers, etc...), individually and in small groups
* Keep detailed records of all work performed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
* A strong working knowledge of computer systems, including Windows, Mac, and ChromeOS
* Experience installing and managing servers, network switches, wireless access points and controllers, storage area networks (SANs), and associated technologies
* Experience with automation, scripting, database, and management/deployment toolsets, including mobile device management (MDM)
* Familiarity with routing, VLANs, QoS, VoIP, and firewalls
* Effective problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
* Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues in a timely manner
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* A commitment to learning and implementing new technologies.

Qualification Requirements:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The Superintendent may waive or modify the qualification requirements. Education/Experience:
* Education: A bachelor's degree in computer science or related field, relevant certifications, or any combination of education and experience that the Director of Information Technology and Superintendent deem acceptable.
* Additional Requirements: Valid Massachusetts Drivers License and Personal transportation for travel between district buildings.
* Experience: At least 2 years of experience working in a high-volume help desk environment. Demonstrated expertise with relevant core technologies.
* Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
* All prospective employees must be able to clear the required background checks.
Physical Demands:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Moderate to strenuous physical effort is required to perform duties. The employee is frequently required to use hands to assemble and dismantle devices, operate equipment, walk, stand, speak and hear, reach with hands and arms, balance, crouch, crawl, stoop, and climb. Stamina is required to work in confined spaces and lift or move items weighing up to 60, and sometimes more than 100, pounds. Physical ability is required to use some equipment, power and hand tools. Vision requirements include the ability to read and analyze documents, use a computer, and operate a motor vehicle. The job is performed in a generally hazard-free environment.
Sensory Requirements:
Most tasks require visual perception and the ability to distinguish color. The employee must be able to input information into a computer and as well as read material from a computer monitor as well as printed matter with or without visual aids. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with other staff members in order to exchange accurate information.
Work Environment:
The noise level in this environment is quiet to loud depending on the activity and the particular part of the day and location. The employee interacts with other staff members and frequently must meet multiple demands from several people.
Work is typically performed indoors; frequently required to work in proximity to high voltage power sources, and work in confined spaces.
While work is typically completed between normal business hours, occasional/infrequent evening or weekend work may be required.
The employee must have personal transportation and be able to drive to various buildings within the district throughout the day.
Errors in decisions could result in injury to others, delay or loss of service, damage to buildings or equipment, monetary loss, and legal repercussions.
