Lead Tennis Instructor Department: Recreation Reports To: Youth Program Manager Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes Safety Sensitive: No Classification: Seasonal, Part Time; Non-Exempt Job Level: 3 Driving Status: No Work Environment: Stauffer Park Summary The Lead Tennis Instructor is responsible for planning and leading tennis lessons, teaching youth proper fundamentals needed to play tennis, and overseeing tennis instructors. Essential Functions Provide daily tennis instruction to youth ages 6-18 years old by demonstrating skills, leading drills and teaching proper technique. Develop and implement a curriculum of drills and games by creating and scheduling appropriate activities to make lessons instructional and fun. Lead the execution of drills and games with the support of other instructors. Delegate tasks to tennis instructors by assigning responsibilities such as leading games or drills, assisting with setup and cleanup, and distributing equipment or supplies. Monitor instructor performance and provide guidance as necessary. Assess participants and identify areas for improvement by observing and evaluating their basic tennis skills at beginner and intermediate levels. Provide individualized feedback and set improvement goals using tennis knowledge and experience. Maintain a safe environment for participants by ensuring all participants are accounted for and that equipment is used properly. Identify and address hazards related to weather, facility or equipment and apply first-aid knowledge when necessary. Communicate effectively with parents, participants, and instructors regarding program activities and expectations for the following day. Collaborate with the Youth Program Manager and Recreation Director to address cancellations, behavior concerns and other program-related matters. Engage with participants and parents to answer questions and offer performance insights. Physical Requirements Ability to demonstrate physical fitness to include frequent light to occasional heavy lifting (up to 15 lbs.) standing, and walking for long periods of time, bending, pushing, and pulling. Able to stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time and intermittently. Ability to reach with hands and arms, push items overhead, occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch. Ability to talk, hear, and see. Competencies Ability to communicate policies, rules, and regulations to all that use the facility Ability to provide direct leadership, instruction, and motivation. Ability to communicate clearly with youth participating in Tennis. Skills Knowledge of various tennis techniques and rules Proficient in instructing and guiding youth. Good leadership, communication, and social skills. Abilities Communicate effectively with participants and parents. Give clear and concise instructions. Required Education and Experience 3-5 years of experience instructing tennis. High School Diploma/ GED.
