This recruitment will be used to fill 4 part-time (10 - 20 hours per week) Student Technical Assistant positions for the Department of Environmental and Molecular Toxicology (EMT) at Oregon State University (OSU).
This position performs routine to complex technical or specialized tasks in support of research for Dr. Duringer's Laboratory.
Student will perform research on industrial hemp and cannabinoid quantitation and/or contaminants of importance to veterinary medicine/agriculture. This will include development of skills in analytical chemistry and use of instrumentation such as LC-MS/MS. Routine laboratory duties such as dishes and proper waste disposal will be part of the position as well. Some positions may include laboratory chemical extractions, data collection, or interpretive analysis
Position Duties
* Student will perform routine laboratory duties and analysis and general lab maintenance related to agricultural research.
* 60% Sample preparation (log-in, grinding and weighing)
* 20% Laboratory maintenance (e.g. washing dishes, stocking consumables, chemical inventory, prepping solutions and proper waste disposal)
* 10% Carry out toxicology assays including extraction of plant/feed and animal blood/urine/fecal samples for assessment by HPLC or LC-MS/MS
* 10% Processing/summary of data using instrument specific software, Microsoft and/or statistical programs and related work

* Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
* Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
* Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
* High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
* Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
* Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
* Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
* Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
* International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Additional Required Qualifications
Must be able to work well with others as part of an integrated team and have attention to detail.
Responsible and well organized with good time Management and communication skills; during the summer months, sample processing occurs in a high-throughput environment.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
Experience or classes in chemistry, biology, agricultural sciences and related fields is preferred, but not required.
