Position begins Fall 2025
Merrimack College invites applications and nominations from individuals interested in launching
an exciting interdisciplinary program within a dynamic and growing academic environment.
Applicants should be committed to, and demonstrate evidence of, excellence in leadership,
teaching and service. The full-time position will be instrumental in leading a new innovative
architectural program with connections to construction management, engineering science, and
the visual arts. A successful candidate will help formulate and implement an ambitious vision
for the 21st-century architecture education through creative collaboration with faculty and as
an integral member of the Merrimack College leadership team.
The Director will:
* Assist with development and implementation of a new architecture program
* Coordinate and lead the daily operation of the undergraduate architecture program
* Collaborate with Administrative Leadership and faculty in the departments of Engineering, Visual and Performing Arts, and Construction Management
* Work with faculty members to develop and implement curriculum
* Be responsible for supervising, reviewing, supporting and facilitating the work of the faculty
* Assist in efforts to ensure student success and enrollment growth
* Represent the architecture program to both internal and external constituencies
* Apply leadership skills toward strategic planning for the program
* Advance the development of architectural pedagogy in the undergraduate, Bachelors of Science, Architecture and Building Science / Technology program
* Oversee the development of the program budget
* Assist in the: recruitment of faculty; hiring of faculty, staff, and adjunct faculty
* Assist and advise in various tasks related to: recruitment, admissions, graduation, internal / external communication.
* Oversee accreditation reviews in collaboration with administration
In addition, the Director will:
* Promote the program regionally and nationally
* Engage with regional and national peer programs
* Lead strategic planning for the undergraduate program, in alignment with the College's Agenda for the Future and its Mission
* Advance the development of program's academic year and long-term agendas
* Advance the development of program's assessment
* Oversee collection of digital student work
* Make recommendations to the administration: on faculty teaching loads and distribution; on programming academic offerings; assists institutional requests of program
Teaching Responsibilities
* Teach 1/1 undergraduate courses in the first academic year; teach 2/2 undergraduate courses subsequently thereafter
* Stay current with emerging trends and advancements in the field to ensure course content is up-to-date and aligned with industry needs
* Mentor and advise students toward academic and professional success
* Maintain regular office hours for student consultations
Minimum Qualifications
* Terminal degree in Architecture or in a closely related field
* Have three to five years of relevant leadership and academic administrative experience
* Have three to five years of architectural teaching experience and serving students
* Established national reputation in research and/or creative achievement, teaching and service
* A desire to identify and foster creative and innovative interdisciplinary collaborations within the Department of Visual and Performing Arts, Department of Engineering, and the program of Construction Management, as well as across the College as a whole
Preferred Qualifications
* Ph.D. in architecture or in a closely related field
* Professional working knowledge of best practices within the professional architectural science and technology industry
* Have five to eight years of relevant leadership and academic administrative experience
* Experience in institutional and professional collaboration
* Experience with fundraising and grant applications

* Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the employment without assistance from the Institution. International candidates must hold a valid US working permit.
This position is subject to the successful completion of a criminal background check.
Vaccinations and Work Location
This is an on-campus position as employees are essential in order to provide a fully on-campus, residential college experience for our students and the community.
