Salary offers for the selected candidate are based on the candidate's education and experience related to the position, as well as our agency budget and equity.   Duties include: This attorney acts as defense counsel for the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, and other agencies of the State as needed, in legal actions brought pursuant to the Workers' Compensation Act, N.C.G.S.97-1, in the NC Industrial Commission, state and federal courts. The attorney will represent state agencies in handling medium to complex workers' compensation litigation, pursuing subrogation liens and perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Section Head. This attorney also will represent the State in criminal appeals. The attorney may be asked to speak at conferences and teach workshops for the client upon request. This attorney will also be a mentor for junior attorneys.   This position qualifies for teleworking on a part-time basis and is flexible / hybrid, subject to management approval.
