Hiring range for this position is $36,816.00 - $43,992.00 per hour. Initial placement for new employees is customarily at entry level through 35% percentile. Pay grade for this position is 12.
The location for this position will be at the Active Living Center.
General Definition of Work:
Performs intermediate professional work assisting in planning, organizing, and implementing department projects, programs, and events. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Active Living Program Manager & Parks Project/Event Manager. Supervision is exercised over event volunteers.Essential Functions/Typical Tasks:
Assisting with the planning and coordination of major events and projects for senior center and parks programs.

* Assists with daily operation of Active Living Centers; and programs, events, projects and/or activities in the Active Living Centers or Parks locations as needed.
* Secures monies used in transactions and collections for event fees utilizing department software.
* Maintains clean and safe work locations.
* Attends meetings as required.
* Maintain correspondence as required.
* Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of the principles, rules, materials and equipment requirements associated with older adult programs and needs; special event and project management and knowledge; some knowledge of first aid methods and necessary safety precautions to be used in recreation work; working knowledge of office equipment and computers and applicable software applications; ability to develop and implement program standards and objectives outlined by administration; ability to organize and coordinate a variety of programs, events, and projects for older adults; ability to plan and supervise the work of volunteers; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, subordinate staff, associates and the general public. Education and Experience:
Requires graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in gerontology, parks and recreation or a related field and some experience in a related parks and recreation field including group recreation activities, events and wellness programs. Some event/project planning experience preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Special Requirements:
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. Position is a safety-sensitive position as defined by the Drug Free Workplace Policy. Possession of CPR and first aid certification.
Physical Requirements:
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force regularly to move objects; work requires crouching, reaching, fingering, standing and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
