The Legislative Department has an outstanding opportunity for a 28 - 30-hour per week Legislative Assistant - Office Administrator/ Scheduler in the office of Councilmember Rob Saka, Chair of the Transportation Committee and representing District 1 (West Seattle, South Park, Georgetown, Pioneer Square, SODO). This is a dynamic, fast-paced, and collegial environment that provides an opportunity for you to demonstrate your skills in administrative office operations and communication, and to grow professionally. The Legislative Department works collaboratively to realize the City's vision of racial equity.    This position requires a self-starter with strong attention to detail and keen sense of organization; the ability to prioritize; discretion in handling sensitive and confidential matters; and the temperament and skills to manage multiple projects while responding quickly and professionally to those who contact the office. Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills are essential. This role requires a motivated individual with a desire to learn and grow, passion for public service, and a commitment to addressing the diverse needs of Seattle's communities.    This is an administrative position in a hard-working office where teamwork and individual capabilities are valued. The office is comprised of four staff members with this position reporting directly to the Chief of Staff.  This at-will appointment serves at the discretion of the Councilmember.   YOU WILL BE MOST SUCCESSFUL IN THIS POSITION IF YOU: * Are soundly organized and experienced in an administrative type of role.  * Are skilled in managing many tasks, absorbing large quantities of information, and prioritizing effectively to keep operations flowing smoothly. * Are ready to pivot at a moment's notice when an urgent need arises. * Enjoy communicating directly with community members, verbally and in writing, and can adapt communications to a variety of audiences and community-specific needs. * Thrive in the political environment. * Assume primary responsibility for administrative and scheduling support to the Councilmember, including by: maintaining and managing the Councilmember's calendar; scheduling, organizing, and coordinating meetings and appointments between the Councilmember and other stakeholders; other secondary duties, as assigned, can include establishing office systems and procedures, data entry, and assist with preparing responses to public records requests in the Councilmember's office.  * Assist with screening, prioritizing, and responding to incoming correspondence and communications in a timely manner, including emails, phone calls, and mail. * Facilitate effective communication within City Departments and with external stakeholders, including constituents, residents, and government departments in other jurisdictions. * Attend community meetings with or on behalf of the Councilmember. * Provide professional, service-oriented connections with members of the public, other City Councilmembers and offices, and City Departments.  * Maintain and organize physical and electronic files, ensuring accessibility and easy retrieval.  * Other duties as assigned.  In addition to the qualities mentioned above, a strong candidate might also have prior experience that offers similar knowledge, skills, and abilities (or a combination of education, experience, and/or training which provides an equivalent background required to perform this complex role in a fast-paced political environment): * Bachelor's degree in communications, political science, public administration, business or a related field. * At least three years of experience in administrative assistance, communications, customer service, public relations, or other relevant experience in a volunteer or professional capacity. * Experience working for an elected official, executive, or director or on a campaign. * Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and accomplish objectives with minimal supervision or oversight. * Ability to maintain confidentiality and remain calm under pressure; a track record of reliability, hard work, collaborative style, the ability to contribute as a team player but can also work independently. * Highly organized and able to perform multiple detailed tasks accurately and efficiently under time constraints. * Commitment to creating a welcoming, professional, and inclusive environment for staff, constituents, and other stakeholders. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook and similar scheduling tools.   Office Culture: The Councilmember fundamentally believes that we need a strong culture founded in a growth mindset. The full salary range for this classification is $21.70 - $73.87 hourly.
