Salary/Position Classification * $60,000+ annual, Exempt * 40 hours per week * 100% Remote Work Availability: No * Hybrid Work Availability (requires some time on campus): No Purpose of Position UAS Lead Flight Instructor - Assists UAS Chief Pilot with the development of the UAS undergraduate flight course curriculum. Conducts student flight/ground instruction and evaluation. Tasked with the safe execution of all UAS flight operations but not limited to: aircraft airworthiness, competently trained personnel, compliance with Standard Operating Procedures, Polices and Regulations. In addition is charged with the leadership and support of staff and hourly positions instructor positions. Assists in the supervision of training, flight operations and safety to meet the organizational vision IAW mission statement of the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences in support of academic and research activities. Duties & Responsibilities * UAS Lead Flight Instructor: * Conduct ground and FTD instruction: * Follow prescribed curriculum. * Maintain student records. * Monitor and evaluate student checks. * Maintain superior training standards. * Assist in the development and maintenance of: * Checklists and supporting material for ScanEagle, PRINCE, sUAS, and ground support equipment. * Develop and maintain UAS aircraft dispatch books and manage maintenance records. * Assists in oversight of UAS flight lab schedule, and student enrollment. * Additional instructor training supplements or UAS flight lesson aids/guides. * Maintain sufficient contact hours. * UAS Operations: * Assist in planning, directing, management, and coordination of flight operations: * Ensures aircraft airworthiness, fleet management, organization, and accountability of supplies to support flight ops. * Review Concept of operations and safety risk assessments. * Collect accurate and complete safety data and reporting requirements, as required. * Liaison between management, instructor and students. * Liaison within UND colleges, outside agencies, FAA, ATC, and other schools. * Coordinate ground academics and flight training within JDOSAS. * Course Management/Development: * Assist in the management and guidance for subordinate staff, hourly instructors, students: * Provides and oversees instructor standardizations. * Provides oversight on the efficient use of instructor time, schedules applied to unit objectives. * Establish and verify crew requirements for CRM, Visual Observer and Standardization. * Certify flight records. * Standardize instructors. * Assist with development of undergraduate course curriculum. * Develop and incorporate instructional aids. * Administrations, Management and Supervision: * Assist in the development and maintenance of: * Ensure compliance with appropriate FAA regulations/approvals, UND SP&P, and additional operations requirements. * Checklists and supporting material for ScanEagle, PRINCE, sUAS, and ground support equipment. * Develop and maintain UAS aircraft dispatch books and manage maintenance records. * Assists in oversight of UAS flight lab schedule, and student enrollment. * Additional instructor training supplements or UAS flight lesson aids/guides. * Assume leadership responsibilities in their absence. * Research Coordination and Administration, Safety Management, Con-ops Development: * Research Coordination and Administration: * Review, report, track documentation related to research activities, manage expectation and abilities and inform unit readiness and compliance. * Conduct data reporting activities in compliance with research objectives. * Attend meetings, provide feedback, track and coordinate tasks, monitor/track status and completions. * Safety Management: * Review and monitor activities against Safety Policies and Procedures pertaining to UAS * Monitors SMS compliance, ERT focal point and attend meetings and monitor operational and maintenance procedures. * Focal point for flight data monitoring and reporting, track and manage recorded data and archives. * Develop and review Safety Risk Management for both new and concurrent operations. * Con-ops Development and Research Project Management: * Assist/Develop operational test plan and cards incorporating best practices, lessons learned following FAA and industry standards. * Coordinate personnel and assets for task completion, communicate objectives and manage project workflow. * Manage scope and timelines for research projects adhering to Principal Investigator hypothesis and directives. Required Competencies * Excellent communication skills. * Ability to make sound decisions concerning training problems. * Good team building skills. * Motivated, self-starter with the ability to perform without direct supervision. Minimum Requirements * Bachelor's Degree in Aviation/UAS. * Experience with ScanEagle training course outlines and computer systems at UND Aerospace. * Instructional & flying experience with the Boeing/Insitu Scan Eagle Software-in-the-loop (SSIL) UAS Simulator. * Experience with Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and Operating software. * Commercial Pilot with Instrument Rating. * Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate. * Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). * Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. Preferred Qualifications * Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) & Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (CFII). * Experience in analyzing and defining software system requirements for training. * Instructional experience in small, fixed wing UAS platforms. * Experience with DJI and Parrot Platforms in flying and instruction. * Experience with Student Training records systems. * Experience in building and/or modification of aircraft systems To Apply Submit resume & cover letter by the closing date for the position.
