Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Research Farmer for the Animal Care Program, Department of Animal Science within the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. Among the key duties of the position are the following: * Performs a variety of general farm duties to provide animal feed, manure management, and repairs and maintenance of facilities and machinery to support the field operations, and the dairy, livestock and equine units. * May guide and instruct others in the performance of duties. Certifications/Licenses * Must have or be willing to obtain Commercial Pesticide Applicator License. * Requires a valid driver's license and two years driving experience. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Will be required to successfully complete the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course. Preferred Qualifications * Knowledge and experience working with all agricultural animals including, cattle, chickens, goats, horses, sheep, and swine is preferred. Equipment Utilized * This position will primarily be involved with the operation of farm equipment for pasture maintenance, general farm repairs, equipment maintenance and fence repair on the NJAES/SEBS farm. * Equipment required to operate includes skid steer loader, farm tractor, planters, manure spreader, brush hog, chain saw, chisel plow, snowplow, livestock trailer and other miscellaneous farm equipment. Physical Demands and Work Environment * The physical demands and work environment are working primarily outdoors, including in inclement weather. * Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Special Conditions * Must have mechanical skills sufficient to perform general maintenance on vehicles and farm equipment.
