Posting Summary Job Title Chairperson, Department of English and Language Arts Division Divison of Academic Affairs Department Department of English Work Status Full Time Position Category Faculty Faculty Rank Open Rank FLSA Exempt Pay Range Salary Range $130,000 to $212,000 Fund Source State Support Job Summary The department seeks a visionary leader with a proven track record of academic leadership and scholarship. Optimally, the Department Chair will develop a vision for a competitive, effective, and responsive Department in this time of shifts and changes in the Humanities. The successful applicant will have graduate and undergraduate teaching experience, an established record of scholarship, the ability to acquire funding, and the ability to supervise 35+ faculty members. The chair will be appointed at the rank of Full Professor Job Duties Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Department Governance: Work with faculty, students, and staff to establish a long-term vision for the Department, assess Department progress and represent the Department to the College and wider institution. Develop course schedules, coordinate book adoption, and conduct program assessments. * Curriculum and Instruction: Provide leadership for curriculum development, review, and revision. * Research Administration and Operation: Work with the faculty to develop a research agenda for the Department and oversee research administration and operations. * Faculty Affairs and Professional Development: Encourage teaching. research and learning excellence throughout the Department, recruit and mentor new faculty and offer professional development for the faculty. * Student Success: Actively recruit, retain and graduate students and work with advisors to achieve student success. * Department Operations: Oversee daily operations of the Department including scheduling, financial management, website, catalog matters, and etc. * External Relations: Work with the Dean to promote the Department to the wider institution and external entities. * Teach classes and conduct scholarly research as mutually agreed with the Dean. * Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Characteristics * Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and social justice and ability to work effectively with students and colleagues of diverse backgrounds. * Evidence of effective, motivational leadership skills and experience consistent with the expectations of a department chair. Required Minimum Qualifications * Earned Ph.D. in English. * Achieved an academic record in teaching, research, and service that is qualified to be appointed on the level of Full Professor with tenure at Morgan State.
