* Only current employees of the Augusta Fire Department are eligible to apply as an internal candidate for this position. *
The purpose of this classification is to order, maintain, track and issue equipment, gear, uniforms and supplies for an assigned department. Incumbents in this class are assigned to the Fire Department and are familiar with the tools and equipment utilized for the fire department.
* Orders and evaluates department equipment and supplies: consults with vendors; obtains quotes; requests equipment for test and evaluation for possible purchase; evaluates products and supplies; ensures equipment and supplies comply with local, state and federal rules, regulations and standards; administers and monitors equipment and supply budget; and obtains management approval for new lines of goods.
* Maintains a supply of uniforms, duty gear, personal protective equipment, breathing apparatus, and other department equipment and supplies: receives requests for gear, equipment and supplies; pulls stock to fill requests; issues and/or delivers materials to requesting personnel; tracks gear from manufacture date to retire date; and maintains logs/records and database of all materials issued.
* Coordinates uniform and fitted gear needs with staff: measures staff for uniforms and fitted gear; orders and issues uniforms and fitted gear; and maintains related records.
* Tests and performs minor repairs on equipment: picks up damaged gear and equipment; determines repair needs and performs repairs if applicable; sends equipment to vendors for repair or replacement as needed; tests gear and equipment, such as personal protective equipment, breathing apparatus, thermal imagery equipment, hydro cylinders, portable fire extinguishers or other gear and equipment; and maintains all related documentation.
* Ensures that items are properly stored and secured; maintains control of equipment and uniform inventory; conducts physical inventory counts, including test counts, sight inventory, and low stock checks and adjustments; verifies and adjusts inventory records, as needed; and prepares and submits related reports and records.
* Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
Required minimum qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or GED with vocational or technical training in Fire Science or related field. {Please note: Upon job offer, you will be required to provide proof of education. Be sure to have the appropriate documents readily available.}
Experience: Two (2) years as Firefighter II with three (3) years in inventory experience of fire equipment and tools.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of:
* Considerable knowledge of general plumbing, electrical, heating, mechanical maintenance and repair work, and function and repair of fire suppression equipment.
* Familiarity with organization and operations of the fire department, and policies and procedures related to equipment and supply requisitions.
* Proficiency in general building and fire suppression equipment maintenance and repair.
* Mastery of basic mathematical computation.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently.
Skills:
* Excellent communication skills both written and oral
* Strong supervisory skills
* Strong people skills
Licensing/Certification:
* Possession of a valid driver's license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.
* Possess or have ability to meet current requirements set forth by the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Act..
* CPR Certified within twelve (12) months of hire.

* Math: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.
* Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of influence systems, such as motivation, incentive, and leadership, and to exercise independent judgment to apply facts and principles for developing approaches and techniques to resolve problems.
* Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable.
* Physical Abilities: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
* Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
* Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
This position requires staff call up in emergency situations and travel from office to other locations.
