Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations. Responsibilities: GENERAL PURPOSE: Design and operation of equipment in the laser facilities. The suite of equipment includes assorted styles and types of laser cavities and components. Solve intricate technical challenges. Lead projects. Mentors junior engineers and contributes to industry advancements. Schedule 8:30 AM-5:30 PM Responsibilities POSITION SUMMARY: Seeking an experienced laser engineer to lead the design of a state-of-the-art optical parametric chirped pulse amplification (OPCPA) system for the NSF OPAL design project awarded to the University of Rochester at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics (UR/LLE). The project will design a new, world-leading, high-power laser user facility with two 25-PW lasers coupled to OMEGA EP to achieve and study extreme physical conditions. RESPONSIBILITIES: Project management coordinating a diverse support team of laser, mechanical, controls, and software engineers Develop project requirements, schedules, and budgets Communicate results through formal design reviews Develop innovative solutions to difficult design challenges Optical modeling and design of broadband laser systems QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor┐s degree and 5 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience ESSENTIAL SKILLS: Experience managing a complex technical project Excellent verbal and written communication Proficiency with the design, construction, and integration of OPCPA systems Strong interpersonal skills working in a team-based environment Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn additional software applications PREFERRED SKILLS: Experience with optical modeling software (Zemax OpticStudio, CODE V) Experience with opto-mechanical, electrical, controls, vacuum systems The University of Rochester is committed to fostering, cultivating, and preserving a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion to advance the University┐s mission to Learn, Discover, Heal, Create ┐ and Make the World Ever Better.
