Position Information Classification Title Post-Doctoral Associate AD FLSA Exempt UGA Job Code FTE 1.0 Minimum Qualifications Position Summary The Center for Tropical and Emerging Global Diseases (CTEGD) at the University of Georgia, one of the largest international centers for research of eukaryotic pathogens, is recruiting postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Rosenberg. Studying how viruses and bacteria dysregulate the immune system has provided us with important insight into how the immune system works, and in turn, this knowledge may allow us to manipulate the innate immune response for the development of therapies. However, viruses and bacteria are only two classes of microbes that can cause disease, and surprisingly little is known about how eukaryotic pathogens manipulate their hosts. The Rosenberg lab utilizes Toxoplasma gondii as a model organism to study the sophisticated mechanisms this pervasive human eukaryotic pathogen uses to modulate the host immune system. Projects in the lab will involve multidisciplinary approaches including genome-wide genetic screens, proteomics, cell biology, microscopy and biochemistry to uncover novel T. gondii secreted effectors and understand their mechanism of action. This laboratory is one of over 20 independent parasite research groups in the CTEGD allowing for numerous opportunities to develop skills and collaborations through interactions with world renown parasitologists and thus provides outstanding opportunities for continued scientific and professional development. Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies Recent PhD or MD degrees, highly proficient in a variety of molecular and cellular biology techniques, performing basic molecular biology techniques, including cloning, nucleic acid isolation, PCR, and protein expression analysis, good English writing and communication skills.
