The Advanced Quantum Technologies Group focuses on accelerating quantum computing and sensing with ion and solid-state systems. Core areas of the Group include fundamental quantum science guiding next generation advances, quantum devices (ion computing testbeds, precision clocks, magnetometers, and other quantum sensors), and quantum systems such as magnetic assisted navigation and quantum microscopes for supply chain security.
Job Description
Opportunities exist for student interns to either support existing research efforts or pursue related independent research projects that leverage the unique expertise and resources available in the group. Current openings include projects such as quantum sensors (e.g., nitrogen vacancy and YIG magnetometers, strontium-ion optical clocks), superconducting electronics (e.g., single flux quantum and related technologies), integrated photonics, and materials development such as diamond engineering.
Most successful applicants are enrolled in a science or engineering college degree program and show good academic performance in relevant courses. Past hands-on experience working in a related field (physics, optics, electrical engineering, computer science, or material science) is welcomed. Applicants should be able to work collaboratively with others, to pursue independent research goals and to communicate well.
To help us match your skills to the right project, please submit a cover letter describing your professional interests and experience, and a resume highlighting relevant coursework and specific skills which could include programming (e.g., Python, C, HDL), use of technical software (e.g., MATLAB, Cadence, finite-element analysis software), data analysis, hardware development, experience with lab equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, cryogenic apparatus) and computer automation, and/or experience with cleanroom microfabrication processes and material growth.
Selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
