Berry Street Pay Rate: $15-$17/hour Job Description: SUMMARY Working under direction of the Program Facility Coordinator-Preschool/Youth, the incumbent will provide direct supervision, safety, social engagement, and instruction for children ages 5-14 years old. The incumbent is expected to exercise good judgment, independence, initiative, and professional expertise in conducting day-to-day operations. All work duties and activities must be performed in accordance with the City safety rules and operating regulations, policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the ability to interact with the public, City incumbents, and outside agencies with patience, tact, respect, and professionalism and the following. Other duties may be assigned. * Assists in planning weekly program schedules and daily themed activities; * Receives daily assignments and meets with supervisor for reporting and evaluation; * Enthusiastically introduces activities and actively engages with participants in outdoor summer fun; * Integrates recreational and educational activities to foster a memorable, interactive, and quality program experience; * Promotes shared experiences, social interactions, and positive and inclusive group dynamics among participants; * Teaches crafts, games, art, and exploration skills: * Teaches street safety and navigation while guiding children safely on exploratory walks downtown; * Maintains flexibility, perseverance, and a sense of resourcefulness; * Guides participants in discovering l concepts, developing new understandings, and demonstrating gained knowledge and skills; * Assists with lunch, snack preparation, and clean up; * Follows child safety protocols; * Demonstrates positive interactions with parents, participants, co-workers, and other staff; * Assists in record-keeping duties; * Participates in staff training; * Performs duties in accordance with the City's safety rules and operating regulations and practices. MARGINAL FUNCTIONS Performs other duties as assigned. PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS The incumbent is responsible to manage their performance in accordance with this job description and the performance expectations provided to them by management. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position requires routine supervision of program participants. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. must be able to pass a post offer drug test, physical, and a criminal background investigation. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE * Experience working with children ages 5-14 years of age. OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and/or ABILITIES * Ability to work well with peers and children of all ages and abilities; * Ability to take charge and motivate others; * Ability to positively resolve conflict. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Incumbent has contact with supervisors, the public, co-workers, department head, division head and with other agencies. Incumbent communicates routine information including the giving and receiving of factual information about work. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Incumbent makes choices and takes actions performing a variety of relatively standardized assignments. Errors in decisions or work are not immediately apparent through supervisory review, but are revealed through adverse effects on operations. Work requires some analysis and judgment. Supervisor reviews work in process, at critical phases and upon completion. Supervisor and employee discuss problems and solutions at the end of day. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS - Required for Continued Employment * Valid Indiana Driver's License if City vehicle is used; * Certified in First Aid and CPR by the American Heart Association within two weeks of employment (provided by the City's Risk Management Department).
