Do not submit resumes and cover letters. Read the " Hiring Process " section below to learn more. Job Summary Are you passionate about tennis and enjoy coaching youth players? The Robinswood Tennis Center is seeking an experienced Tennis Instructor to join our team. As a Youth Tennis Instructor you will provide high-quality tennis instruction to children, collaborate with others on our team to plan, organize, schedule, lead and promote a variety of youth programs, activities, tournaments, and special events. Current position opening is for a part-time instructor but there is an opportunity for additional hours and teaching other programs based on facility needs. Robinswood Tennis Center is a year-round public facility serving primarily Bellevue residents but is considered a regional facility for the greater tennis community. The Tennis Center features a main building housing 4 indoor courts, locker room facilities, administrative offices, and a retail kiosk. There is an additional 4 outdoor courts, 2 of which are covered by a seasonal air structure (winter). Tennis programs offered include: youth and adult group lessons, private instruction, competitive youth development teams, drop-in classes such as cardio tennis, senior drill & play, and adaptive programs such as wheelchair tennis. Activities include USTA Leagues, inter-club competition, team workouts, and local and sanctioned USTA tournaments. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide individual and group tennis instruction to children of various ages and skill levels. Prepare lesson plans, develop curriculum, determine teaching standards. Foster a positive and encouraging learning environment to motivate students to reach their full potential. Ensure that all tennis activities are conducted safely and in accordance with Bellevue Parks & Community Services policies and procedures. Interact professionally with parents, students, and customers. Address inquiries, concerns, requests and respond in a timely manner. Assist with the promotion and communication of program. Collect data, maintain class rosters, develop reports and assist program staff with other administrative support tasks. Assist with basic court maintenance items, including but not limited to the condition of nets, scorekeeper repair/replacement, teaching cart ball inventory. Ensure proper use/care, and set-up and storage of program equipment. Enforce facility rules, policies, guidelines and safety standards Supervision Received and Exercised: This position typically works under the direction of the Program Coordinator but frequently sets their own work objectives. May lead and oversee teaching assistants, other staff, and/or volunteers. Qualifications Previous experience as a Tennis Instructor/coach is required. Proficiency in teaching children is essential. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Comprehensive knowledge of tennis techniques, strategies, and rules. Ability to create engaging and effective lesson programs and clinics. Ability to conduct individual participant skill evaluations. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, the community and program participants. Ability to communicate in an articulate and informative manner. Ability to provide clear instructions, written and verbal. Ability to handle emergency situations. Skill in working with diverse groups of people in a tactful, effective and respectful manner. Education, Experience, and Other Requirements Three years or more of tennis teaching experience. PTR/USPTA certification preferred. Competitive tennis playing experience: High School, College, USTA League/Tournaments USTA Safe Play certification or be able to become certified within three months of hire. CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain. Must pass a criminal background check. Supplemental Information Physical Demands: Work involves moving, communicating, and standing for extended periods of time. Vision abilities required by this job may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee may be required to set-up, lift, transport tennis equipment up to 25 pounds. Work environment may be indoors and/or outdoors. Hours may vary and may require weekends, evenings and holidays. This is a variable, non-exempt, non-union position. Definition of a Variable Employee Average weekly hours cannot be determined at date of hire. Hours may vary from week to week and are anticipated to be less than 28 hours per week.
