Server Assistant / Dishwasher Requirements

You need some basic basing on how to handle dishes when busing and then you need a certification to handle both food and drinks. Jobs are mostly entry level skills so really you can go to any place to get it but it will help to know someone so that you can be in front of them fine compared to everyone else who's trying to do the same job. 

Back of the House

In the back of the house, you’re in your usual area taking care of dishes, cleaning them, sanitizing them, and then you have to go out and put them all where they need to be so it's a learning curve of where everything belongs. For some dishes you need to go out to the front of the floor to put them away. For the most part you’re stuck in your little world taking care of dishes as they come to you. 

Pros to Dishwashing

The pros of being in the back is that you can be by yourself or you might have a partner and then you can enjoy listening to your own music and you're just kind of doing things as they are coming to you so you can focus on you. 

Pros to Server Assistant

For a server assistant, If you're a social person it'll be very good because you're always out front, meeting new people, you'll talk a little and you'll interact with some people to give them water, give them bread, take their dishes.

Common Next Steps

Dishwasher and server assistants are very good first out of the gate jobs. The Next steps are to definitely make more money and tips. I definitely want to become an actual server, bartender or even move up in management.
