<p dir="ltr">I would absolutely say if you are even thinking about being a coach, any kind, career coach, life coach, soccer coach, I honestly would say get coached first. To understand the process, to feel what it is like, to understand what it entails.&nbsp;</p>

<p dir="ltr">I had been a college professor, had moved away from that, moved into staffing and recruiting, working with people every day, helping them get jobs that they loved, and I wanted to continue that in a deeper way and I found my coaching was a great way to do that.</p>

<p dir="ltr">I work for myself as a career coach. I own my own business, so the burnout is real. I make all of the decisions, which is a privilege, but it honestly is a very big challenge as well.</p>

The Chief Inspector oversees and orgainzes workers who are inspecting parts or products.  Their role is to ensure their staff is able to identify defects in order to correct production methods.  Their responsibilities are to train new staff and monitor their progress, prepare rejection slips indicating reasons the materials or parts failed inspection, review blueprints, sketches and order specifications, alert supervisors when reports show major assembly discrepancies, and discuss dismissal decisions on parts production.

An Engagement Specialist builds rapport with diverse staff and clientele in order to allow them to work better together.  Their role is identifying, scrutinizing, improving and streamlining work processes, and managing multiple projects and clients simultaneously.  Their responsibilities are to set priorities, adapt to changing conditions, identify key issues, facilitate resolutions, communicate decisions with clients, use various computer programs and applications, and build long-lasting customer relationships.

An Engineman works in the navy to maintain diesel engines and reduction gears that are used on ships.  Their role is to ensure that auxiliary machinery like diesel generators, pumps and oil purifiers are in operational order.  Their responsibilities are scheduling and planning repairs, ordering and returning parts, fixing equipment, completing a daily workload, training service members, and transporting equipment, weapons, vehicles and patrol boats.

A Facilities Director manges the maintenance of buildings and grounds.  Their role is ensuring compliance with regulations and laws, training staff on safety procedures, and designing and planning the facilities layout.  Their responsibilities are managing waste disposal, scheduling renovations, coordinating routine maintenance and repairs, providing site support, handling security, cleaning and catering, and overseeing contractors.

A Facility Engineer is responsible for designing, planning, implementing, and maintaining the infrastructure and equipment of buildings and facilities to enhance the operations.  This includes analysis of operational processes, resource allocation, energy use, and safety processes. Facility Engineers analyze material and costs, procedures and standards, review safety measurement, and review construction or production bids.

The Facilities Manager oversees the safety, upkeep and services of a businesses facilities to ensure that they meet the needs of the business and its staff.  Their role is to supervise all facilities staff and external contractors, review utility consumption and strive to minimize costs, inspect building structures to determine the need for repairs or renovations, and manage the upkeep of equipment and supplies to meet health and safety standards.  Their responsibilities are to perform analysis and forecasting, keep financial and non-financial records, handle insurance plans and service contracts, allocate office space according to needs, and plan and coordinate all installations and refurbishments.

Field engineers spend most of their time in the field or manufacturing site where they help in troubleshooting the problems. They carry out research on the problem and find the root cause of the problem and then fix the issues and ensure everything is working smoothly on sites. Field engineer’s responsibilities include inspecting and installing equipment and new technologies, resolving onsite malfunctions, directing crews or workers on site, conducting research, maintenance of infrastructure and equipment and reporting on project status.

A field service engineer is responsible to provide service and customer support during field visits or dispatches. They manage all onsite installation, repair, maintenance and test tasks, diagnose errors or defects in product and equipment and determine proper solutions. They also produce timely and detailed service reports, document processes, cooperate with the technical team, and build positive relationships with customers. Their responsibilities also include completing preventative maintenance, ordering and managing repair parts, and working as a member of the local team to provide efficient service delivery to all accounts within the assigned area.

The Maintenance Manager examines facilities periodically to resolve problems and evaluate necessary maintenance needed.  Their role is to plan weekly maintenance schedules and allocate work, recruit, control and train maintenance technicians, and appoint and supervise tradesmen during installations, repairs or maintenance.  Their responsibilities are to investigate and maintain building systems, contribute to the growth of the maintenance budget, monitor the inventory of materials and supplies, participate in the coordination of projects, and ensure adherence to quality standards and health and safety management.

An Office Manager oversees administrative support for a company in order to keep the office running smoothly.  Their role is overseeing the general office operation by greeting visitors, coordinating appointments and meetings, and mentoring, supervising, training and coaching office staff.  Their responsibilities are answering a high volume of incoming phone calls, delivering optimal customer service to clients, managing staff calendars and schedules, delegating assignments to ensure maximum productivity, and coordinating domestic and international travel.

<h2>Office / Administrative Support Education</h2><p>Technically you don't need a degree to get into this field. This is a great career for anybody just getting started or anybody who has been in another career and wants a good career change. A degree can definitely help you in this career especially if the position is asking for management and this will help you especially if you want to supervise or if the position allows you to supervise others.</p><p><br></p><h2>Skills</h2><p>It takes just somebody who is <strong>willing to learn</strong> who's a good <strong>people person </strong>and somebody who just really likes to <strong>help others</strong>. Being able to <strong>adapt</strong> is a very important skill in this position. Your company that you'd be maybe working with may change their needs. <strong>Technology </strong>is always changing to be able to adapt and to <strong>grow</strong> with that is very important depending on your company. I've taken that to managing people and now actually taking over onboarding and doing more HR role, payroll.</p><p><br></p><h2>Role Challenges</h2><p>A Con can be that you can be working under a lot of pressure with a lot of competing demands especially if the company has a lot of internal and external customers. This career is definitely customer service related so if you don't like working with people I do not recommend it.</p><p><br></p>

The Plant Operator manages equipment that works with concrete, sand, and gravel in order to to crush or segregate materials.  Their role is to observe gauges and dials to correctly operate the machinery and ensure conformance to processing specifications.  Their responsibilities are to repair machinery using handtools, power tools and welding equipment, manage all operations, process types of equipment, ensure an optimal level of production, resolve all operating issues, and collaborate with contractors and vendors for all activities.

The Process Technician monitors and improves the manufacturing processes for a business.  Their role is identifying and monitoring production machine parameters, reviewing and testing product and batch quality, and ensuring the production processes run smoothly and efficiently.  Their responsibilities are identifying machine faults and production rate errors, maintaining production logbooks, reporting faults and breakdowns to supervisors and production engineers, and ensuring all service personal adhere to safety protocols.

Quality assurance inspectors ensure that goods manufactured by their staff meet industry and central standards. Quality assurance inspectors find service in several industries such as food, clothing, electronics, and automobile. Their goal is to guarantee that products can endure regular use and that products work as planned. The duties and responsibilities of quality assurance inspectors are monitoring operations, maintaining records of testing, inspecting procedures, creating reports for the quality manager, and maintaining compliances.

A Radio Operator works with radio equipment in order to communicate with the public, airplanes, ships, or other remote operations.  Their role is to adjust voice volume and sets transmitters to the correct frequencies in order to broadcast information.  Their responsibilities are to speak with people on remote operations, transmit weather or traffic conditions, receive and transmit communications, use radiotelegraph equipment, clean and store equipment, test equipment to ensure its functioning correctly, install, operate and monitor radio equipment, report violations regarding radio communications, interpret coded messages and emergency signals, record signals for intelligence personnel analysis, determine where signals originate, exchange transmission instructions with receiving operators, and monitor emergency frequencies and respond to calls or distress.

The Safety Officer oversees workplace repair, installations and any other work that could be a hazard to employees.  Their role is to prepare and present reports on accidents and violations, and determine causes.  Their responsibilities are to check if all employees are acting in adherence with rules and regulations, identify process bottlenecks and offer timely solutions, enforce preventative measures, conduct a risk assessment, work with HR to set up a new employee onboarding process for safety, prepare educational seminars and webinars, and advise and lead employees on various safety related topics.

<h2>How I Became a Safety Specialist</h2><p>I have a bachelor's degree in chemistry. I have a master's degree in oceanography.</p><p>I worked 18 years in an oceanography chemistry lab, studying the ocean, sailing on ships all over the world.</p><p>Then, once I had a child and needed to settle down and be more stable, I entered the safety industry, and I'm currently a safety specialist for the University of California, San Diego. I make appointments, and then I do inspections.</p><p>I have a checklist and iPad, and I walk into a location and use my checklist to make sure everyone is applying the rules and regulations and working safely.</p><h2><br></h2><h2>Pros and Cons of being a Safety Specialist</h2><p>The pros are setting your own schedule. It's very rewarding when people reach out to you and are asking how to become safer and how they can follow the rules and comply with regulations. That's very rewarding.</p><p>The cons are sometimes we have to issue demerits. You have to ding people for not following the rules and not being safe. That can be sometimes challenging, but overall, if you just follow your checklist and give people resources and ideas on how to do better, then everyone's happy.</p><h2><br></h2><h2>Career Advice</h2><p>As someone that's been a safety specialist for many years now, my advice would be: get a college degree, get your foot in the door early, and commit to the career path, and you will succeed in life. There's always a need for a safety person in every field.</p><p><br></p>

<h2>Pros and Cons of a Courier Job</h2><p>The benefits of this job are actually being able to manage your own time, be outdoors, getting exercise.</p><p>So the drawbacks of this are the physical toll that it will take on your body and burnout. It's really tough on your knees. I can speak from experience.</p><h2><br></h2><h2>How to Get Started as a Courier / Driver</h2><p>So if you're straight out of school, you can get a package handler job, but to be a driver they want you to be 21 years of age because you are delivering alcohol to some people and you need to be accountable for that.</p><p>The best time to get in is probably during the holidays when they're doing a lot of hiring. Once you get in, you'll get in as a package handler and they'll work you like a dog on loading cans and onto a conveyor belt which feeds all the trucks. But this is the best way in.</p><h2><br></h2><h2>Courier Job Requirements</h2><p>You should be physically able, physically fit, be able to read a map, follow directions, be able to drive to pass a DOT physical.</p><p>You will be required to take a drug test prior to driving for a logistics company. So it's best that you don't do any recreational drugs. They might be legal in your state, but for DOT that's federal and federal does not allow you to have anything in your system.</p><h2><br></h2><h2>What’s its Like as a Courier</h2><p>As a courier, you'll end up in the building about 6:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m. Most days you're out of the building by about 8:30 a.m. and you're able to get to your delivery area by 9:00 a.m. and then start into your delivery day. However, logistics are dependent on flights and if your flights are late then you're not leaving the building till about 10 a.m. maybe 12 and you're going to go out with 100 to 200 stops.</p><p>It's a very physical and demanding job and you got to be ready to wear that. Bring a lunch, prepare yourself for long days, but most times you're going to be out there after sundown delivering stuff.</p><p><br></p>
