A crossing guard is a person employed to help pedestrians safely cross streets, usually at intersections and school crossings. They are responsible for stopping traffic as needed, making sure all pedestrians have crossed the street before allowing vehicles to continue moving, and providing directions or other assistance if necessary. The Driver undertakes various transporting duties.  Their role is delivering packages to customers in a timely manner, transporting clients from airports to hotels and vice versa, carrying out vehicle maintenance checks, and picking up office purchases or other administrative needs. <h2>Pros and Cons of a Courier Job</h2><p>The benefits of this job are actually being able to manage your own time, be outdoors, getting exercise.</p><p>So the drawbacks of this are the physical toll that it will take on your body and burnout. It's really tough on your knees. I can speak from experience.</p><h2><br></h2><h2>How to Get Started as a Courier / Driver</h2><p>So if you're straight out of school, you can get a package handler job, but to be a driver they want you to be 21 years of age because you are delivering alcohol to some people and you need to be accountable for that.</p><p>The best time to get in is probably during the holidays when they're doing a lot of hiring. Once you get in, you'll get in as a package handler and they'll work you like a dog on loading cans and onto a conveyor belt which feeds all the trucks. But this is the best way in.</p><h2><br></h2><h2>Courier Job Requirements</h2><p>You should be physically able, physically fit, be able to read a map, follow directions, be able to drive to pass a DOT physical.</p><p>You will be required to take a drug test prior to driving for a logistics company. So it's best that you don't do any recreational drugs. They might be legal in your state, but for DOT that's federal and federal does not allow you to have anything in your system.</p><h2><br></h2><h2>What’s its Like as a Courier</h2><p>As a courier, you'll end up in the building about 6:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m. Most days you're out of the building by about 8:30 a.m. and you're able to get to your delivery area by 9:00 a.m. and then start into your delivery day. However, logistics are dependent on flights and if your flights are late then you're not leaving the building till about 10 a.m. maybe 12 and you're going to go out with 100 to 200 stops.</p><p>It's a very physical and demanding job and you got to be ready to wear that. Bring a lunch, prepare yourself for long days, but most times you're going to be out there after sundown delivering stuff.</p><p><br></p>

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) are the first responders in medical emergencies. They provide basic life support, including assessing a patient's condition, providing airway management, controlling bleeding and administering CPR. EMTs also stabilize patients with spinal or head injuries and transport them to hospitals for further care. Additionally, they may respond to calls involving overdoses, childbirths and other medical emergencies. They must be able to work quickly under pressure while maintaining composure in stressful situations.

Manufacturing technicians run and sustain factory tools and assembly processes, examine and check product quality, and document results in strict observance to protocols in a distinct manufacturing environment. Various tasks of manufacturing technicians are testing products for functionality or quality, diagnosing problems with tools or devices and preparing and assembling materials. The other main responsibility of the manufacturing technician is to standardize or adjust equipment to ensure production using tools such as calipers, micrometers, a height gauge and stretcher. They set up and verify the functionality of safety equipment and also make sure the cleanliness of production equipment or work areas.

The Office Assistant helps manage the office by providing assistance to complete adminstrative tasks.  Their role is to schedule appointments, proofread documents, receive guests, and handle clerical and organizational support tasks. Their responsibilities are handling incoming calls and other communications, maintaining the filing system, updating paperwork, helping organize and maintain office common areas, performing general office clerk duties and errands, organizing travel by booking accommodations and reservations, coordinating events, and maintaining supply inventory and office equipment.

This is a great career for anybody just getting started or anybody who has been in another career and wants a good career change. I've taken that to managing people and now actually taking over onboarding and doing more HR role, payroll.</p><p><br></p><h2>Role Challenges</h2><p>A Con can be that you can be working under a lot of pressure with a lot of competing demands especially if the company has a lot of internal and external customers. This career is definitely customer service related so if you don't like working with people I do not recommend it.</p><p><br></p>

<h2>What is a Director / Head of Partnerships</h2><p>Being a head of partnerships can mean different things to different companies.</p><p>At some companies, it means business development, where you are trying to forge relationships between your company and another company for mutual beneficial gain.</p><p>Sometimes it means searching for new business, depending on what type of business you have.</p><p>In the case of Ridwell, being the head of partnerships means being in charge of identifying, vetting, and maintaining the 200-plus relationships that we have with recycling and reuse partners in the United States and beyond.</p><p>This role, at the time that I took it, the department did not exist.</p><p>The main need for this role was actually to open, start a department, hire people, and organize partnerships across the US.</p><h2><br></h2><h2>Job Requirements</h2><p>The job requirements for this were to have a college degree and also good communication skills.</p><p>Since this required starting something new that was a little bit unknown to the company, they were looking for entrepreneurial skills.</p><h2><br></h2><h2>Most Important Skills</h2><p>It's just the people skills and communication and detail orientation that you need.</p><p>I think a lot of times you can get that through sales skills, but not exclusively.</p><h2><br></h2><h2>The Path I Took</h2><p>The path that I took is I went to undergrad, and I got a degree in economics there.</p><p>Then I started on Wall Street, and that has helped me by giving me a financial grounding on learning P&amp;Ls, income statements, and how businesses work from a financial standpoint.</p><p>After that, I went to business school.</p><p>After business school, I did entrepreneurship twice, and that really helped me for this role.</p><h2><br></h2><h2>An Average Day / Week</h2><p>My average day: I'm at my desk with back-to-back meetings, meeting with partners, meeting with my team, trying to move projects forward.</p><p>In an average month, I have probably two days away from the desk where I'm either meeting with a partner or I'm at our warehouse, checking things out or talking with other employees of Ridwell.</p><h2><br></h2><h2>Tips for Getting Into Your Next Role</h2><p>I think that if you reach out for an informational interview with folks in your network who are doing similar work and ask them about what their job entails, that is the best way for you to learn.</p><p>It also helps folks understand that you are looking for a role.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p>
