The Administrative Assistant helps and supports managers in administrative and clerical activities.  Their role is handling administrative requests, organizing and scheduling appointments, scheduling meetings, preparing minutes of meetings, preparing reports, and maintaining appropriate filing systems.  Their responsibilities are arranging events, supporting office policies and procedures, maintaining client and employee lists, reconciling expense reports, and arranging the accommodation and travel of employees or visitors.

<h2>Office / Administrative Support Education</h2><p>Technically you don't need a degree to get into this field. This is a great career for anybody just getting started or anybody who has been in another career and wants a good career change. A degree can definitely help you in this career especially if the position is asking for management and this will help you especially if you want to supervise or if the position allows you to supervise others.</p><p><br></p><h2>Skills</h2><p>It takes just somebody who is <strong>willing to learn</strong> who's a good <strong>people person </strong>and somebody who just really likes to <strong>help others</strong>. Being able to <strong>adapt</strong> is a very important skill in this position. Your company that you'd be maybe working with may change their needs. <strong>Technology </strong>is always changing to be able to adapt and to <strong>grow</strong> with that is very important depending on your company. Strong <strong>excel skills</strong>. Being able to have strong <strong>communication skills</strong> is going to be key to be able to work with and communicate with your managers, your customers, internal and external.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><h2>Role Pro</h2><p>One big pro of this is you can work in an in-person setting, hybrid or remote.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><h2>Role Advancement</h2><p>In my current company that I work for I started as an admin assistant and I developed this position to be more of a management position. I've taken that to managing people and now actually taking over onboarding and doing more HR role, payroll.</p><p><br></p><h2>Role Challenges</h2><p>A Con can be that you can be working under a lot of pressure with a lot of competing demands especially if the company has a lot of internal and external customers. This career is definitely customer service related so if you don't like working with people I do not recommend it.</p><p><br></p>

A Barista serves beverages such as coffee and tea.  Their role is preparing coffee or tea, packaging coffee blends, explaining menu items to customers, and ensuring that customers are comfortable and satisfied.  Their responsibilities are welcoming customers, informing them about specials or new items, accepting orders and payments, preparing foods, packaging food and beverages for sale, selling coffee, tea blends and brewing equipment, cleaning and restocking work and dining areas, learning about food preparation and presentation techniques to improve food quality, updating signage, replenishing items in display cases, and adhering to all food quality controls and safety regulations.

<p dir="ltr">If you're thinking about becoming a server, first of all, it's a way to make really great lifelong friends. I cannot stress that enough. I think the social environment and social impact that the hospitality industry brings, no, nothing else out there.&nbsp;</p>
<h2 dir="ltr">Becoming a Server:</h2>
<p dir="ltr">Typically, if you are looking to become a server, it's not an entry-level restaurant position. Usually you would start out as a host or a hostess or a busser, and then work your way up. So the environment of a new restaurant opening though, is they're doing mass hiring. So when you're doing mass hiring, you're really, really focused on hiring, not only for ability and skill set, but personality. So if you have a shining personality and you wanna start serving without having to start off as a host or a hostess or a busser, that's a really great environment to do so.&nbsp;</p>
<h2 dir="ltr">Where This Path Can Lead:</h2>
<p dir="ltr">So currently hold a senior manager of global operations role. I started in 2006 as a new server and at a new restaurant opening. The next role is bartending. And so bartending for me was probably the most fun I've ever had ever job wise. I quickly became a trainer for that company. So I immediately started to get to travel. After doing a few domestic openings, the brand started to go globally.&nbsp;</p>
<h2 dir="ltr">Career Opportunity:&nbsp;</h2>
<p dir="ltr">So I had the opportunity to travel all over the world, which was a life-changing opportunity as well. I was able to go to places that I would never be able to go to on my own at that age.</p>

A Bartender serves, mixes and garnishes beverages and food for customers.  Their role is welcoming customers, reading and listening to customers to make recommendations, planning drink menus, and informing customers about new beverages.  Their responsibilities are selecting and mixing ingredients, garnishing glasses, serving beverages to customers, checking identification to ensure customers are of the legal age to purchase alcohol, taking inventory and ordering supplies, adhering to all food safety and quality regulations, ensuring charges are accurate, balancing the cash register, maintaining a clean work and dining area by removing trash, cleaning tables, washing glasses, utensils and equipment, and developing new cocktail recipes.

A Cashier operates scanners, scales, cash registers, and other electronics, balances the cash register, and accepts payments for goods.  Their role is ensuring all prices and quantities are accurate, generating reports for credit and debit sales, and processing refunds and exchanges.  Their responsibilities are assisting customers by answering questions, helping customers locate items, resolving complaints, following all store procedures, bagging or wrapping purchases to ensure safe transport, and maintaining a clean workspace.

The Hostess greets guests, escorts customers to the dining and bar areas, and provides accurate wait times.  Their role is to monitor waiting lists, welcome guests to the venue, manage reservations, and coordinates with wait staff about available seating options.  Their responsibilities are to provide menus, thank customers upon their departure, maintain a clean reception area, answer incoming calls, and address customers’ queries.

An Intern helps a company with work in order to gain experience and skills in a specific area.  Their role is working closely with different team members to learn more about the company and industry.  Their responsibilities are to perform tasks set out by supervisors, attend meetings and take minutes, perform research at a supervisor's request, update social media platforms, and write copy and create images for social media posts.

The Manager achieves department objectives by managing staff, and planning and evaluating department activities.  Their role is to develop, coordinate, and enforce systems, policies, procedures and productivity standards, and establish strategic goals by gathering pertinent business, financial, service and operations information.  Their responsibilities are to maintain staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees, communicate job expectations, plan, monitor and appraise job results, coach, counsel and discipline employees, identify and evaluate trends and options, prepare an annual budget, and maintain service standards by enforcing quality and customer service.

A Sales Associate is responsible to promote a company’s products or services focusing on customer service. They welcome new customers, take initial requirements, guide customers through the product portfolio, answer queries and work to deliver a positive customer experience.

The Server delivers food and beverages to customers in a friendly manner, and provides information to help food and beverage selections.  Their role is to identify appropriate beverage and food pairings, answer food preparation questions, maintain dining ambiance with an enthusiastic attitude, and transmit orders to the bar and kitchen by accurately recording patron's choices.  Their responsibilities are to protects the establishment and patrons, keep kitchen staff informed by noting the timing of meal progression, respond to additional patron requirements, and obtain revenues by totaling charges, issuing bills, accepting payments, and returning credit card and signature slip to patrons.
