Correctional Officer Job Description
Overview
A correctional officer is responsible for the supervision, safety and security of inmates in a jail or prison. They are also responsible for monitoring inmate activities, providing guidance to inmates and enforcing rules and regulations set by the facility. Correctional officers may be required to conduct searches of cells or other areas within the facility, maintain records related to inmate behavior, supervise visits between inmates and family members/friends, provide medical assistance when necessary and respond to emergency situations.
