Materials Manager Job Description
Overview
The Materials Manager determines supply needs, and designs and maintains department budgets for the purchase of supplies and materials according to specifications. Their role is to keep records, assess material quality, movement and expenditures, and manage the distribution of supplies in the organization. Their responsibilities are to maintain relationships and negotiate with suppliers, monitor inventory levels and access to the material, recommend solutions to existing processes to reduce waste, collaborate with management to plan forecasting models and avoid material shortages, backlogs and other potential schedule interruptions, and supervise and support juniors and new workers.
